内容简介

When artist Phil Sandusky viewed his native Jacksonville, Florida, from a distance, what he saw inspired him. The sandy white beaches and botanical gardens that had become commonplace to him during his childhood held new meaning to him once he moved away. The beauty of landmarks such as Main Street Bridge, the Boardwalk at Jacksonville Beach, Memorial Park, and the city's skyline stood out in contrast to the sights in his adopted home of New Orleans. The artist's third book of Impressionistic paintings includes eighty works created during a period of twenty-five years. Views of shipyards, docks, and yacht basins stand alongside renderings of churches, the Federal building, and City Hall to create a complete picture of Jacksonville. Text at the beginning of the book tells of how the artist chose his medium and how he was repeatedly drawn back to the home he left. Although he has moved on, Sandusky has captured the essence of this beloved city to take with him. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Phil Sandusky's first book with Pelican, New Orleans en Plein Air, was followed by Painting Katrina, an unprecedented artistic response to one of the worst natural disasters to impact the United States. He is currently represented by Cole Pratt Gallery in New Orleans, Reinike Gallery in Atlanta, and Stellers Gallery in Jacksonville. Sandusky has published several articles in American Artist, and he serves as instructor of landscape and life painting at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts. His work can be seen in many prominent collections at museums such as New Orleans Museum of Art, Louisiana State Museum, and Danforth Museum of Art in Framingham, Massachusetts.
