亨利—皮埃尔·罗什(Henri-Pierre Roché，1879-1959)，由于父亲过世的早，所以他是在母亲专制的热情下成长的。

他读的是政治，却对绘画情有独钟，直到他自觉天分不够，才放弃绘画，改为收藏画作。他翻译了一些中国诗，终其一生都是文学、绘画、旅行的业余爱好者。其中，罗什常为人提及的事迹，是将毕加索介绍给美国人认识。

一九五三年，罗什以七十四岁的高龄发表了第一本小说《祖与占》，这在文学史上十分罕见。

法国导演特吕弗十分欣赏罗什精湛、简洁的文笔，两人约定共同完成《祖与占》的电影剧本。

一九六一年，在特吕弗完成《祖与占》的拍摄时，罗什已在一年前过世。
