Tom Wesselmann, best known for his series of Great American Nudes, begun in the early 60s and continuing still, is one of the more subtle of the American Pop artists, known more for isolating and abstracting items of the pop visual experience into a new two-dimensional context, than for layering it on, more and more and more.
