内容简介
The CIA's Secret War in Tibet. By Kenneth Con-boy and James Morrison. (Lawrence: University Press of Kansas, 2002. x, 301 pp. $34.95, ISBN 0-7006-1159-2.)
From 1949 until 1969, the United States sought to destabilize the People's Republic of China through economic, political, and covert warfare. Prior to China's forcible incorporation of Tibet in 1951, Washington, like the rest of the world, rejected Tibetan pleas for international recognition and support, but, after it was already too late to preserve Tibetan independence, the remote Himalayan kingdom became a focal point of Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) covert operations. The general contours of this story have been well known for a long time. This book by two veteran writers on theCIA adds vivid details from interviews with dozens of CIA veterans who participated in what in retrospect, and even at the time, was clearly a doomed effort to combat China's control of Tibet.
