内容简介

From School Library Journal Grade 7 Up?Parker offers teens sound advice and practical steps for making their decisions. She discusses different personality types, how to listen to advice, and the fact that decisions have consequences. She provides examples of dilemmas adolescents might face, a description of how decisions were made, and the resulting outcomes. This book will be useful for young people who wish to learn how to take control of their lives. Tattooing and Body Piercing is a timely title on a current popular-culture phenomenon. However, while Reybold provides much accurate information about issues to consider and questions to ask of practitioners to preserve health, her disapproval of these practices is obvious throughout. As in Decision-Making, case studies present individual experiences. In every instance however, the person either had a bad experience, is unhappy with the result, or lives to regret it. The slant is so extreme as to seem unbelievable and it is unlikely that the scare tactics used will prevent participation in these fashions. Black-and-white photographs illustrate both books, giving them a textbook appearance. The pictures concerning tattooing and body piercing are particularly unattractive.?Melissa Gross, Beverly Hills Public Library, CACopyright 1996 Reed Business Information, Inc. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title. From Booklist Gr. 7^-12. Reybold's cautionary look at the risks and consequences involved in getting a tattoo or having your body pierced may prove eye-opening to young adults contemplating either experience. Brief histories of tattooing and body piercing are followed by some very specific information, not the least being the fact that any tattoo or piercing will be with you for life, "leaving at least a scar or hole." Reybold includes advice on how to avoid infection and concludes by suggesting alternatives, such as temporary tattoos and clip-on nose and navel rings. The photos, some in color, are generally clear and complement the text. As is usual in the Need to Know Library, a glossary, sources of more information, and a list of further reading are appended.
