Joyceg love letters always started out a little slow.
I was young??? in college??? in love??? and in a hurry. And I couldn t
help but note how her correspondence always moved along in
low gear for the first few pages. You know what I mean. Chatty
stuff. How are you??? what do you think of the weather??? how are
classes??? howg the family??? howg basketball practice??? and all that.
Over time I learned to speed-read through those \"preliminaries???\"
knowing that I could (and would) go back to read the whole
thing over again a couple thousand times.
But I wanted to jump right into the good stuff.
I wanted to read the parts that said how wonderful and
charming I was...and what a godly??? dedicated young man I was???
and how she couldn t live without me. She did say some very
nice??? sweet things in those letters..??? but somehow??? it was never
quite enough. I not only wanted to absorb everything on the
surface??? I wanted to dive even deeper into that perfumed prose.
I kept trying so very hard to read between those lines of neat???
feminine cursive. She said this??? but she obviously intended that.
