Alex turns out to be somewhat of a rat but does not show his fangs (kidnapping Brett and Phyllida for a money marriage) until Phyllida has refused him. But finally Brett and Phyllida marry, Brett inherits a Dukedom, Jenny shakes free of Peter who is placed under Alex s custody. To each his deservedly own.
