博爾赫斯（波赫士，Jorge Luis Borges)（1899～1986）阿根廷诗人、小说家兼翻译家。生于布宜诺斯艾利斯一个有英国血统的律师家庭。在日内瓦上中学，在剑桥读大学。掌握英、法、德等多国文字。中学时代开始写诗。1919年赴西班牙，与极端主义派及先锋派作家过从甚密，同编文学期刊。1923年出版第一部诗集，1935年，小说集《恶棍列传》问世，引起阿根廷文学界重视。1941年出版的小说集《小径分岔的花园》是他最具开拓意义的作品，此后《阿莱夫》、《布罗迪报告》、《沙之书》和《莎士比亚的记忆》诸集愈臻其妙，以丰富的叙事手法构筑了作者独有的迷宫式小说世界。
博尔赫斯的创作成就还体现地篇目众多的谈艺妙文，那是20世纪经典作家的智慧之门。从早年的《埃瓦里斯托·卡列戈》到逝世后结集的《私人藏书：序言集》，他的10个随笔集几乎组成了一部艺术圣经。
1946年因在反对庇隆的宣言上签名，被革除图书馆中的职务，派任市场家禽稽查员，但作家拒绝任职并发表公开信表示抗议。1950年至1953年间任阿根廷作家协会主席。1955年任国立图书馆馆长、布宜诺斯艾利斯大学哲学文学系教授。1950年获阿根廷国家文学奖，1961年获西班牙的福门托奖，1979年获西班牙的塞万提斯奖，1983年获西班牙智者阿方索十世大十字勋章。
